Market Notes - May 24, 2010

Stock futures pointed to a lower open for the market, but there is a chance that U.S. economic news this week may distract from Europe’s problems.

New home sales for April will be reported today at 10:00 am ET. The National Association of Realtors is expected to show an increase from the previous month. On Tuesday we will see two housing price reports and two confidence reports. Durable goods orders on Wednesday will be an important indicator on manufacturing, and new home sales data will also be released. The revised estimate for first quarter GDP and the weekly jobless claims will be released on Thursday. The week ends with an update on the consumer with the personal income report.
