Market Notes - January 26, 2010

U.S. futures were mixed early despite mostly positive news on the earnings front. Apple reported after the bell yesterday and significantly beat estimates for both revenues and earnings. Among others to report today include Delta Air Lines, Corning, McGraw-Hill, U.S. Steel, and Yahoo.

The Federal Reserve’s policy making Open Market Committee begins its two-day meeting today, with a statement due tomorrow at 2:15 pm ET. Interest rates are unlikely to change, but investors will again look for signals of future changes.

Among the economic reports scheduled for today: the S&P/Case-Shiller report on home prices is out at 9:00 am ET and the Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence index will be issued at 10:00 am ET.
