U.S. stock index futures pointed to a lower start, with little news influencing markets either way. Overseas markets were also lower.
There are no economic releases scheduled for today and the earnings calendar is relatively light. Yesterday, Dell and Hewlett-Packard posted good results, but that news has been overshadowed by weak economic reports. Corporate mergers and acquisitions activity has increased this week. Increasing M&A activity is usually seen as a hopeful sign for economic improvement, as businesses are willing to spend more.
