Market Notes - November 3, 2009

Trading volume could be lighter today, as the two-day Federal Open Market Committee meeting gets underway. At 2:15 pm ET tomorrow, the Fed will provide its latest policy announcement. It is widely expected that rates will stay the same, but investors will search through the wording for clues as to when tightening may occur.

In the meantime, investors will digest October auto sales data later today, while a reading on factory orders is due out at 10:00 am ET. Elsewhere, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway announced plans to buy Burlington Northern Santa Fe in a deal valued at $44 billion.
