U.S. stocks were poised to edge higher, following the lead of European stocks. Wall Street finished lower Friday after some downbeat earnings results, but still managed to post gains for the week.
There will be plenty of earnings data to digest this week, with about 27% of the S&P 500 reporting. Today, the focus will be on Apple and Texas Instruments scheduled for after the close.
On the economic calendar, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke gives a speech on current economic conditions at 11:00 am ET, while the National Association of Home Builders is out with its monthly sentiment index at 1:00 pm ET. Housing starts and the Producer Price Index will be release Tuesday, while Thursday brings the report of Leading Indicators and weekly jobless claims numbers. We finish the week with existing home sales data.
