U.S. stock index futures pointed to a strong start as investors return from the long holiday weekend. Global stocks rose, led by commodities after gold topped $1,000 an ounce.
The economic calendar is relatively light for today and the rest of the week. The Federal Reserve is due to release a report on consumer credit this afternoon, which is expected to have fallen for a sixth straight month.
As for the rest of the week, the trade balance and weekly initial claims data will be released on Thursday. On Friday, we will receive data on wholesale inventories, the import price index and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment report.
