U.S. stock index futures indicated a lower start when the markets open.
The new week begins with a relatively light economic calendar. The Conference Board will be releasing its August index of leading economic indicators at 10:00 am ET. Consensus estimates call for the forward-looking index to have risen by 0.7% last month.
On Tuesday, the Federal Open Market Committee begins its two-day meeting on interest rate policy, with a decision and statement expected Wednesday afternoon. The weekly jobless claims and existing home sales number will be released on Thursday. We end the week with data on new home sales, consumer confidence and durable goods orders.
