U.S. futures moved into positive territory as several companies reported earnings that beat expectations. Caterpillar, the largest maker of earth moving equipment, was the biggest market mover, with shares jumping more than 12% in pre-market activity after topping expectations by 50 cents despite reporting lower revenues.
Other companies posting better-than-expected results and/or good guidance include: DuPont, Merck, United Technologies, Southwest Air, and Coca-Cola. We will get reports from Apple, Starbucks, Yahoo, and others later today. Meanwhile, investors will be keeping an eye on comments from Bernanke, who heads to Capitol Hill to testify on monetary policy and the economy.
