Market Notes - June 15, 2009

Market participants appear defensive this morning as futures point to a lower start.

The Empire State index, a measure of manufacturing in the New York area, was released before the opening bell. The report showed manufacturing contracted at a faster pace as sales and inventories declined. Still to come today is the housing market index.

As for the rest of the week, we will get information on housing starts, producer prices, and industrial production on Tuesday. The consumer price index for May is released Wednesday, while the Conference Board’s index of leading indicators and the weekly jobless claims will be released Thursday. There are no releases on Friday.
