U.S. stocks slumped on Friday, but still managed to finish higher for the week. This morning, stock index futures have been mixed.
There will be plenty of economic data to consider this week, but today’s calendar is light. The latest Empire State Manufacturing Survey showed that manufacturing activity in the New York region remained strong, though it did slow from April’s exceptionally high pace. We will also get data on cash flows between the U.S. and other countries and the National Association of Home Builder’s monthly sentiment index.
Housing starts and the Producer Price index will be released Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Consumer Price index and the minutes from the most recent FOMC meeting will be released. On Thursday we will see the Conference Board’s index of leading indicators, the weekly jobless claims report, and the Philadelphia Fed Survey. There are no reports on Friday.
