Market Notes - April 26, 2010

U.S. stock futures edged higher ahead of a full week of earnings and economic data. Wednesday’s FOMC statement will vie with first quarter GDP as the event of the week.

There are no major economic reports today, but tomorrow we will see the S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index and consumer confidence reports. The Fed will also begin its two day meeting which will culminate Wednesday with a statement. Thursday has the weekly jobless claims report and Friday will be busy with the first quarter GDP report, Chicago PMI, the Employment Cost Index and a consumer sentiment report.

After a series of better-than-expected earnings reports, many investors are optimistic about this week's numbers. The week brings results from 164 companies in the S&P 500. Some of the notables include: BlackRock, Whirlpool, 3m, UPS, General Dynamics, ExxonMobil, P&G, and Colgate-Palmolive.
