Market Notes - October 26, 2009

Futures traded slightly higher before the bell, indicating a relatively flat start.

Today’s news is relatively light with no major economic reports and only a handful of earnings announcements scheduled. Both earnings and economic data will be bigger drivers as the week progresses.

This week 137 of the S&P 500 companies are due to report. Some of the bigger names on tap include: Visa, ConocoPhillips, International Paper, Well Point, Chevron, and Duke Energy. On the economic front, we will see the S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index and a consumer confidence report tomorrow. On Wednesday, we get data on Durable Goods Orders and new home sales. Thursday will get a lot of investor attention with the GDP report and weekly jobless claims number. We end the week with Personal Income and Outlays data, the Employment Cost Index and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment survey.
